Church at the Park – City Heights

On Sunday, July 5 All Peoples Church gathered together at Colina del Sol Park in San Diego to worship for “Church at the Park.” We had an awesome time together grilling out, worshiping, and hearing a short teaching from the Bible. On July 12 we resumed our normal meeting place at Horace Mann Middle School near the intersection of 54th and Trojan. Here are some pictures of our time together:

Day 11: Finishing Philippians

Congratulations, if you’ve been following our blog then today’s reading will conclude your personal study of Philippians!

TODAY’S READING: Philippians 4:10-20

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Paul declares in this passage that he ‘learned to be content whatever the circumstances.’ This is the secret that we learn from the book of Philippians. As you reflect on your readings the past 11 days, you’ll notice that the themes of joy, thankfulness, attitude, and praise are linked together.

If our circumstances don’t control our level of joy, what does? Our attitudes. Paul’s decisions to choose contentment and thankfulness allowed him to talk in ever increasing joy.

RESPONDING TODAY: Make thankfulness a discipline in your life. Begin your prayer times with thankfulness. As you pray over your food each meal, don’t forget to thank God. End your days with thankfulness and prayer as your go to bed each night. Thankfulness builds contentment, which is the foundation of joy in our lives.

Today we are going to summarize the theme of joy in Philippians. Read the following verses as you explore the theme of joy and all that Christ has for us as we meet with Him.

1:4 – Joy in Prayer
1:18 – Rejoicing that Christ is preached rather than focusing on problems with other Christians
1:25- Contending for joy in churches
2:2 – Paul’s joy is in the spiritual success of others
2:17-18 – Rejoicing while emptying yourself out on behalf of others
2:19 – Receiving joy from testimonies
2:25 – Rejoicing in healing
2:29 – Receiving other believers in relationship
3:1 – Rejoicing in the Lord through worship
4:1 – Joy in relationships with others
4:4 – Rejoicing always in every circumstance
4:10 – Rejoicing in God’s provision
