ALL PEOPLES CHURCH – NEAR SDSU
All Peoples Church is a multi-ethnic, economically diverse church where everyone is welcome! If you’re looking for a relaxed, welcoming place where you can connect with God, contribute to a community, and help change the world while in college, then we’d love to invite you to All Peoples Church. Our church is located approximately two miles from SDSU Campus in San Diego. We have a lot of things going on at SDSU, for example:

- Opportunities for students to serve kids in the community through sports clubs and youth Bible at Horace Mann Middle School in the inner city of City Heights near State campus.
- Weekly “Lifegroup” meetings for college students to get to know one another
- Occasional on-campus events in partnership with other Christian organizations at San Diego State (concerts, outreaches and prayer events).

GETTING INVOLVED
All Peoples has a ‘pathway to growth’ that describes how someone can jump in to what God is doing here:

STEP 1 – CONNECT – Connect to God by attending Sunday Worship
STEP 2 – COMMIT – Commit to community by finding a Lifegroup
STEP 3 – CHANGE – Change the world with us through serving and evangelism.

LIFEGROUPS
A major way that you can get involved in all that God is doing with All Peoples Church at SDSU is through Lifegroups. Lifegroups are small groups that meet house to house in order to worship, study the Bible, and get to know each other in a way that isn’t possible on Sunday mornings. Here’s some pictures from our college age Lifegroups:

Currently, there are four college-age small groups associated with All Peoples Church, three of which meet very near SDSU Campus:

- Sunday Night Athletes Lifegroup (Off Remington near SDSU Baseball stadium)
- Tuesday Night International Women’s Lifegroup (University Ave)
- Wednesday Night Student’s Lifegroup (Off 55th near the ARC)
- Thursday Night Point Loma/Ocean Beach Lifegroup (In OB, near the beach)

Visit our ‘contact us‘ page above if you’d like information about attending a small group!

Day 21 – John 21

Filed Under Category Devotionals, John by allpeopleschurch

John 21 illustrates at least 2 key principles of the Christian life:

God is always full of love and forgiveness, even when we fail and mess up
The chapter begins with Peter, John, and a few other disciples out fishing. Jesus appears on the shore and as soon as they recognize who it is, Peter jumps into the water and heads towards Jesus (vs. 7). As you recall, Peter is the disciple that denied Jesus (John 18) even after making the claim that He would never fall away from Jesus (Matthew 26:33) and that he would actually lay down his life for Jesus (John 13:38).

Peter must have felt tremendous guilt, shame, and embarrassment over denying Jesus; yet as soon as He saw Him, he ran towards Him. This is a picture of how we should respond to Jesus even when we feel that we fail Him. He is always waiting to forgive us and heal us. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. (Romans 8:37-39)

God has a unique plan and purpose for each person’s life
Despite Peter’s previous denial, God still had a powerful plan for Peter’s life.
We see in verse 15-19 that Jesus was asking Peter to show his love through obedience to the call to serve His people. We see in the book of Acts that Peter was used mightily by God as a prominent leader in the early church.

After receiving his personal call from Jesus, Peter became concerned with what John’s calling would look like. Jesus basically says, “Peter, what’s it to you. It’s none of your business. You just need to follow me.” (paraphrase of John 20:20-23). It is easy to fall into the trap of comparing what your life looks like to the life of another person. The key issue is that we wholeheartedly respond to Jesus’ command to follow Him no matter what it looks like.

REFLECTION
1) Is there any area in your life in which you consistently feel like you fail God? Ask God to reveal His love and forgiveness in that area. Spend time meditating on Romans 8:37-39 and the truth that nothing can separate you from God’s love.

2) Do you struggle with comparing your life to another person?
Consider the following verse: “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10. Spend time thanking God for His unique plan and purpose for your life.

WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE
Congratulations! You finished 21 days of reading the bible! Now that you are in the habit it is important to continue to set aside daily time to spend with God. As a next step consider reading through the book of Acts and the book of Romans. The books of Acts is about the early church and what happened immediately after Jesus’ time on earth. The book of Romans contains many of the key doctrines of Christian faith.

Day 20 – John 20

Filed Under Category Devotionals, John by allpeopleschurch

John 20 gives us the account of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

ETERNAL LIFE
Jesus’ resurrection is a key component of our salvation because as we see in Scripture, if Jesus would not have been raised from the dead we would still be in our sins and be due the penalty of our sins (eternal separation from God).

“If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17).

However, because Jesus was resurrected we have forgiveness of our sins, a “new birth”, and the promise of eternal life.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you.” (1 Peter 1:3-4)

POWER TO LIVE A GODLY LIFE
A second truth to reflect on this morning is that they same power that raised Jesus from the dead is actually at work in you!!

“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.” (Romans 8:11)

Jesus knew that his followers would need power to life a godly life (i.e. to have attitudes and actions to look like Jesus and to experience victory over sin struggles). Also, He knew his followers would need power to do the works that He did on earth such as preaching, teaching, healing the sick, casting out demons, performing miracles, etc.

In John 20:21 Jesus says to his disciples, “as the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Then, He breathed on them and they received the power of the Holy Spirit to go out and live like He did. The same is true for us today, God’s power is at work in our lives!!

REFLECTION
Watch this video to listen to a song called “You are Here (The Same Power)”. The song is by a band called Hillsong.

Take time to write down your reflections on what it means that the same power that rose Jesus from dead is at work in you!!
