Season of Fasting

At the beginning of 2012, God impressed upon the heart of our church leadership that this was the year to believe that All Peoples Church will become a missions movement. Our heart from the inception of this church was to be a “church planting church,” that sends out friends and family locally from San Diego to touch and transform the nations of the earth. As we were seeking God about His will regarding this vision, He led us to Acts 13:1-3:

In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

In the early church, God initiated the process of transforming nations through a local church as the church set aside time to pray and fast.

Fasting is simply not eating for the purpose of seeking God and prayer. We’ve written a helpful resource on fasting (which can be downloaded here) that will help you as you prayerfully consider jumping in on this fast with our church leadership.

There are currently two fasting opportunities for us as a community at All Peoples Church:

Fasting 1.0

We will doing a church-wide fast prior to our World Mandate conference for the purposes of prayer and spiritual preparation. If you’ve never fasted or a beginner at fasting, this is a great opportunity to try it out.

  • Dates… Sunday 1/29 – Tuesday 1/31
  • Ending with at church-wide prayer rally on Tuesday 1/31 at 6PM
  • There will be no Lifegroups this week as we spend time seeking God together in prayer during the Tuesday night rally

Fasting 2.0

To those who have fasted before and feel a special leading of the Holy Spirit, we want to invite you to fast along with our Church Overseers Leadership team for 12 days this January. We feel that God called us to fast for 12 days because there are 12 apostles and, as the Acts Scripture states above, we are believing for an ‘apostolic movement’ to be birthed from our church.

  • Dates… Friday 1/20 – Tuesday 1/31
